You grew up more or less normally, despite the antics of resident bully Butch DeLoria, leader of The Tunnel Snakes and an all-around Jerkass. Your father is the head doctor and an all-around Nice Guy, and your mother. It's an underground paradise that saved humanity from the War two centuries ago, and has been home to everyone within it for generations. It's 2277, and Vault 101 is an okay place to live. It marked a major shift for the franchise, going from a traditional turn-based Western RPG to a first-person Action RPG, and left the West Coast setting of previous games for a fresh start in the D.C. It was developed by Bethesda Studios, who purchased the rights to the franchise after Interplay Entertainment's bankruptcy. note It is, however, the fourth game in the official timeline due to Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel being declared non-canon.

If one causes the slavers to become hostile toward them outside of Eulogy's pad and then enter it, they may find Eulogy killing Crimson by shooting her in the head. If one has high Sneak and/or a Stealth Boy, it's sometimes possible to watch this duel happen. Sometimes one will find Crimson dead on the top, outer balcony of Eulogy's pad, killed in a duel by Clover. If she is approached while she is friendly, she will tell the Lone Wanderer to leave and will turn hostile if they get too close. She, unlike most other inhabitants of Paradise Falls, does not remain hostile indefinitely and will turn friendly after a few in-game days. If Eulogy has been killed and Clover is either dead or has been hired, Crimson will guard Eulogy's corpse. If the player character chooses to kill Eulogy Jones without recruiting Clover, they both may attack the player instead of escaping with their freedom.
